MEET THE FOUNDER
I’m Sydney Carter, LPC.
I'm a licensed trauma therapist and EMDR specialist in Aiken, SC. I help adults get to the root of what's been keeping them stuck, not just manage it session after session.
HOW I WORK
Collaborative, semi-structured, and paced to what you need.
My work focuses on helping clients process and move forward from their past—whether that involves trauma, long-term toxic stress, or other challenging life experiences.I specialize in EMDR, a trauma-focused treatment that works differently than talk therapy. It helps us access and process how experiences are stored in the body and nervous system, not just how you think or talk about them. EMDR allows us to connect with deeper, often subconscious emotions and can help release how trauma is stored in the body.
I also offer comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for adults. If you're looking for a thorough clinical picture rather than ongoing therapy, learn more about assessments here.
MY PATH HERE
Where this work started.
I originally came to this work through researching religious trauma, which is still an area I care about personally and professionally. I studied in Vatican City, Greece, Italy, and Ireland, exploring how sacred and liminal spaces shape human experience. That interest in meaning-making and identity carries directly into the work I do now.
I hold a Master of Science in Applied Clinical Psychology and bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Philosophy and Religion, both from Winthrop University.
Outside of the therapy room, you'll usually find me doing agility sports with my Aussie mix, scent work with my Beagle, or sewing my own clothes.
